Hawaii 2010
Onboard & At-Sea Days

On embarcation day, Dale and I explored the bow of the ship and the harbor. You can see the sky is quite gray, but the sea was calm in the harbor - as soon as we sailed into open ocean, it was a different story!

On the first full day, the seas were still very rough. Dale nursed his sea-sick tummy while Chip tried his hand in the golf putting contest - the rough sea did not help him sink the putt!

Twice a day on sea days, we played Team Trivia in a couple of the lounges. We came in 3rd and won Holland America Sweatshirts.

Sometimes, once the seas calmed down,
the Crows Nest was a good place to veg out.

Holland Amnerica sponsors a 5K
"On Deck For The Cure" Walk on every cruise. Chip & Dale walked around the Lower Promenade deck 13 times, came in first even though it was not a competitive walk, and
enjoyed pink lemonade after.

We did not use the gym but we did use the thermal suite, especially the heated ceramic loungers - very cozy.

Holland America is known for it's extensive artwork collections decorating its ships. The Zaandam has a musical theme and is decorated with related art and memorabilia, including a massive Baroque-style Dutch pipe organ that soars in the three-story atrium. It has mechanical sculptures that move each time it plays (several times a day). Made in the Netherlands and Italy over a two-year period, it has wooden pipes, drums and mixed media designed by F.C. J. Dingemans and V. Janssen.

Another display contains guitars signed by the Rolling Stones,
Carlos Santana and Queen.
