Hawaii 2010
The Hawaiian Language
Palapala Loke (Barbara Rose)
Kipo Mikala Penekona (Chip Michael Benson)          Kaila Kilikopela Penekona (Dale Christopher Benson)

The Hawaiian Language consists of 5 vowels and 8 consonants.
English words can be easily changed to Hawaiian with a few simple transliteration rules:

  • There are no consonant clusters in Hawaiian. Adjoining English consonants are either separated by a vowel or one of the consonants is dropped.
  • A vowel is added at the end of words, very often a, sometimes o
  • The okina is a consonant, a letter that is not a vowel. In English, it is known as a "glottal stop", which means "stop the flow of air at that point". The sounds occurs as a break between two vowels.
  • Names are unisex.
